The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a fresh increase in the cost of obtaining the Nigerian passport, effective from September 1, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the new rates apply only to applications processed within Nigeria.
Under the revised fees, the 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost N100,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity has been raised to N200,000.

However, passport application fees for Nigerians abroad remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page booklet and $230 for the 64-page option.
The NIS explained that the review was necessary to “maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport” while ensuring continued accessibility for citizens.
This adjustment comes just one year after a similar hike approved by the Federal Government in August 2024, which took effect on September 1 of the same year. Then, the cost of the 32-page booklet was raised from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page version increased from N70,000 to N100,000.
At the time, immigration authorities defended the increment, saying it was needed to sustain production quality and improve service delivery.
