Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the upcoming Anambra State governorship election to demonstrate that it has restored public trust and turned a new page in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Atiku made the call in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday while declaring his support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Nwosu Chuma, ahead of the November 8, 2025, election.
“The election is also an opportunity for the electoral umpire, under the leadership of Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, to prove to the world that it has turned a new page and that the integrity of our elections will not be sacrificed for the satisfaction of the ruling party,” Atiku wrote.
He described the forthcoming election as more than just a regular poll, calling it “a unique opportunity” for the people of Anambra to end years of bad governance and usher in a new era of accountability and progress.
“The Anambra State governorship election offers a rare chance to end the era of poor governance in the state and ensure that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) does not continue its practice of snatching and running away with the people’s mandate,” he said.
Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urged voters to rally behind the ADC candidate, Nwosu Chuma John, and his running mate, Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, to lead the state toward prosperity and stability.
He called on all registered voters to not only participate in the election but also mobilise support for the ADC.
“Anambra has a proud history in Nigeria’s political and economic development,” Atiku added. “I believe that Ndi Anambra will once again open a new chapter of progress and stability through the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
The Anambra governorship election is one of several off-cycle polls scheduled in Nigeria’s electoral calendar, as residents prepare to elect their next governor for a four-year term.
