The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissolved its Enugu State Working Committee as part of ongoing internal restructuring, ahead of Governor Peter Mbah’s expected defection to the ruling party.

The decision was reached during the party’s 179th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday and presided over by the National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.

According to a communiqué issued by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, the NWC unanimously approved the dissolution of the Enugu State Executive Committee with immediate effect, citing a comprehensive review of the party’s state affairs.

To fill the leadership vacuum, a seven-member caretaker committee has been constituted to manage the party’s activities in the state. The committee is chaired by Dr. Ben Nwoye, a former state chairman. Other members include H.E. Mrs. Fidelia Njoeze, Comrade Peter Chime, Dr. (Mrs.) Oby Ajih, Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor, Engr. Emma Ekeh, and Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh, who will serve as Secretary.

The newly appointed caretaker committee is scheduled for inauguration on Friday, October 10, at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The dissolution of the Enugu executive comes just two days after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, over alleged certificate forgery. Nnaji, an ally of former APC Enugu chairman Barr. Ugo Agballah, had reportedly opposed Governor Mbah’s defection plans.

In addition to the Enugu restructuring, the NWC cleared two aspirants — Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo — to contest the Ekiti State governorship primary, while disqualifying two others, Engr. Ojo Kayode and Mrs. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi.

The meeting also resolved to inaugurate the APC National Reconciliation Committee, chaired by Chief Bisi Akande, in the coming days. The party further announced that a timetable for congresses nationwide would soon be released, alongside the commencement of public hearings by the APC Constitution Amendment Committee later in October.
