
Caleb University Appoints Professor Olalekan Asikhia as Vice-Chancellor
Imota, Lagos – June 2025 – Caleb University has formally announced the appointment of Professor Olalekan Asikhia as its new Vice-Chancellor, following the completion of tenure by Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, who served meritoriously for two terms.
A seasoned academic and internationally recognized Professor of Business Administration, Professor Asikhia brings to the role over three decades of experience in academia, research, institutional leadership, and consultancy. His extensive background and transformative leadership are expected to steer Caleb University into a new era of academic growth and global engagement.
A Distinguished Career
Professor Asikhia is known for his scholarly excellence and strategic thinking. Over the years, he has carved a niche as a visionary in educational leadership, earning accolades both locally and internationally. His areas of expertise span strategic management, entrepreneurship, innovation, and higher education administration.
Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Asikhia served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, Strategy, and Administration) from 2021. During this period, he led several landmark initiatives that significantly shaped the university’s trajectory, most notably the design and implementation of the 2022–2026 Strategic Plan, which has already achieved over 71% of its targets by 2024.
Under his strategic leadership, Caleb University witnessed a rapid rise in its national academic standing—moving from 66th to 18th place in Nigeria’s university rankings, while also achieving a 57% increase in institutional visibility.
Achievements and Impact
A prolific scholar and multiple grant award-winner, Professor Asikhia has made notable contributions to poverty alleviation and SME development through research. He was awarded the University of South Africa’s SME and Poverty Alleviation Grant in 2014 and 2015—totaling $100,000—in recognition of his impactful work that has influenced both national and international policy directions.
As a mentor, consultant, and thought leader, he continues to inspire the next generation of academics and administrators through capacity building, research collaborations, and public service.
