An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has again extended the interim order freezing the bank accounts of all 30 local governments in Osun State until Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
The case, filed by the Attorney General of Osun State and another claimant, involves the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc and several other defendants. It centres on the alleged transfer and management of Osun local government funds currently under judicial contest.
At the resumed hearing on Friday, UBA’s counsel, Mutalib Ojo (SAN), urged the court to adjourn proceedings indefinitely, pending a Supreme Court judgment on a related case. Ojo argued that any ruling by the lower court could contradict the decision of the apex court, which has already reserved judgment on the matter.
However, counsel to the sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmen, Kazeem Gbadamosi (SAN), opposed the plea, saying the bank’s application was “an anomaly” that should not be entertained until the court first decides whether it has jurisdiction to hear the suit.
On the other hand, counsel to the plaintiffs, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN), contended that the state had to approach the High Court after discovering that Federal agencies — including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation — had allegedly transferred the disputed allocations to UBA, despite the pending Supreme Court case.
Justice Ladiran Akintola, who presides over Court 5, said the adjournment was to allow a well-considered ruling after consultations with all parties. He extended the interim injunction earlier granted, maintaining a no-debit restriction on the affected UBA accounts holding Osun local government allocations.
The development comes just days after a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Uwani Aba’aji, reserved judgment in a separate suit filed by Osun State, seeking to compel the Attorney General of the Federation to release the state’s withheld local government funds.
