The Osun State Government has named Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The appointment, according to the state government, is part of a broader initiative to mobilize resources for the development and transformation of sports across the state.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Governor of Osun State and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is committed to revitalizing the state’s sports sector through infrastructural upgrades and strategic partnerships.
Adewusi noted that the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion, adding that the project aims to meet Olympic standards and position Osun as a hub for both national and international sporting events.
He further disclosed that plans are underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will oversee sports administration, policy implementation, and athlete development in the state.
Explaining the rationale behind Davido’s appointment, Adewusi said,
“The Sports Trust Fund will attract contributions from philanthropists and private investors within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable funding for sports growth. Davido accepted the appointment without hesitation, and we are confident that his influence and network will greatly enhance the development of sports in Osun.”
The initiative is part of Governor Adeleke’s broader agenda to promote youth engagement, talent discovery, and economic empowerment through sports.
