Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reflected on the tragic loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, describing it as a moment that completely transformed his life and outlook.

Ifeanyi died in October 2022 after drowning in the family’s swimming pool at their Banana Island residence in Lagos — a tragedy that shook fans worldwide.
Speaking in an interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido said the painful experience gave him a new perspective on resilience, purpose, and the value of life. He noted that the strength he and his wife, Chioma, showed during that dark period has inspired many people to face their own struggles with courage.
“Of course, it changed my life,” Davido said. “I can’t count how many people — even strangers at airports — have walked up to me to say my strength encouraged them through their hard times.”
The singer added that he and Chioma are proud of how far they have come since the tragedy. “I told my wife recently that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now we have twins — they’re everywhere in the house, full of life. To go through the loss of our son and still bounce back in such a big way is huge.”
