In a deadly overnight ambush, suspected bandits have killed at least two soldiers and two vigilante members in Dogon Ruwa, a community in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday as the joint security team was reportedly trailing the armed group following an earlier attempted assault in the area. The attackers, who had seemingly anticipated the movement of the security operatives, laid in wait and opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of the four personnel.

According to local sources, including Daily Trust, the armed assailants carted away rifles and uniforms belonging to the fallen soldiers after the ambush.
Abdullahi Yakubu, the traditional ruler of Safiyo, under whose domain Dogon Ruwa falls, confirmed the incident and condemned the attack. “There was a report that bandits were planning to attack Dogon Ruwa. Residents alerted the security forces, who immediately mobilised to the area. Unfortunately, the bandits ambushed them on the way and killed two soldiers and two vigilantes,” he said.
A resident, Ibrahim Sale, expressed concern over the growing insecurity, noting that the incident has left the local population anxious and unsettled. “The bandits not only killed them, but also stole their weapons and uniforms. This has created fear and anger in Dogon Ruwa and nearby villages,” he said.
Attempts by SaharaReporters to get a comment from Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages.
The attack adds to the growing wave of insecurity in Plateau and other parts of northern Nigeria, where banditry and insurgent activities continue to claim lives and disrupt communities.
