The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Abdulazeez Gbadebo, a station manager with Emadeb Energy Service Limited, over the alleged diversion of N500 million belonging to his employer.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, noting that operatives of the Commission’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate acted on a petition filed by the company.
According to the petition, an external audit revealed that Gbadebo manipulated pump meters to sell bulk petrol and allegedly diverted proceeds running into N500 million into his personal bank accounts. Further investigations showed that he sold petrol and diesel directly to individuals while receiving payments through his private accounts.
Recovered items from the suspect include two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, three Mini Coopers, a three-bedroom detached bungalow, and several landed properties.
Oyewale added that Gbadebo will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
The case underscores persistent concerns about fraud and diversion of funds in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, which has long been plagued by financial irregularities.
