Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a raid early Sunday morning at the Green Legacy Resort, located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, arresting several suspected internet fraudsters during a pool party.
The operation, reportedly carried out by EFCC officers from the Lagos Directorate, disrupted the event as gunshots were fired into the air, prompting attendees to flee. A viral video circulating on social media shows chaotic scenes from the incident. According to eyewitness accounts and reports, over 20 luxury vehicles and other valuables were seized during the raid.
This crackdown follows a similar EFCC operation just days earlier at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, where 55 suspects, including one found with locally made firearms, were apprehended by the Ibadan Zonal Command.
A social media user, A. Ayomide, claimed he narrowly missed the raid after leaving the party venue around 1:30 a.m. “Twenty minutes later, I got home and started receiving calls that EFCC was raiding OOPL,” he posted.
Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and update you.”
As of the time of this report, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale has not responded to requests for comment.
