The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has been temporarily closed following a violent robbery at the male students’ hostel on Monday night. Suspected robbers stole valuables including smartphones and laptops, injuring two students in the process.

The attack triggered protests at the school’s main gate on Tuesday morning, with students demanding urgent action from management. Registrar Kasimu Salihu said the peaceful protest was later hijacked by hoodlums with malicious intent.

In response to the unrest, the institution ordered an immediate shutdown of academic activities, giving students two hours to leave the campus. No date has been set for reopening.

This follows a similar security breach in March 2022 when armed robbers attacked off-campus hostels, prompting increased security measures that have not fully allayed student safety concerns.
