The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday in honor of this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government, congratulating Nigerians on the milestone of 26 consecutive years of democratic governance.
The announcement was contained in a statement released on Sunday and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
“June 12 represents our historic journey toward building a nation founded on truth, justice, sustained peace, and a secure future,” the statement quoted the minister as saying.
Tunji-Ojo praised the resilience and strength of Nigerians over the past 26 years and expressed optimism for a renewed sense of hope.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to democratic ideals, the minister reiterated that the Tinubu-led administration remains dedicated to upholding the universal values of democracy—particularly the right of citizens to freely determine their nation’s political, economic, social, and cultural direction.
