The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee has launched the Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award, a new initiative designed to recognise journalists and digital influencers who demonstrate exceptional accuracy, balance, and impact in reporting Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal and tax reforms.

Announcing the award on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the committee’s chairman, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, said the initiative aims to foster informed public discourse, combat misinformation, and encourage journalism that helps citizens understand and trust the nation’s tax reform efforts.

According to Oyedele, the award is open to Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and online media, as well as digital influencers, bloggers, and podcasters.

“The award seeks to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and promote journalism that explains reforms in clear and trustworthy ways,” he stated.

Entries are to include published works between July 1 and December 31, 2025, in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba.

On the prize structure, Oyedele revealed that the overall winner will receive ₦10 million, while the second and third-place winners will take home ₦5 million and ₦3 million, respectively. There will also be consolation prizes for the top 20 finalists.

Submissions will be evaluated based on accuracy, balance, clarity, public engagement, and creativity. Applications open via the official portal — fiscalreforms.ng — and will close on December 31, 2025.

Oyedele added that the initiative aligns with the committee’s broader agenda to simplify Nigeria’s complex tax system by harmonising multiple levies into a transparent and broad-based structure.
