Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has denied any involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or plans to contest the 2027 governorship election under its platform.

In a statement released on Friday, Ambode described recent reports linking him to an ADC-led coalition as “false publications intended to distract and mislead the public.”

“I wish to publicly reaffirm my absolute and unshakable loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party under which I served as governor in 2015, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—my leader, mentor, and a tireless champion for Nigeria’s progress,” Ambode said.

He urged members of the APC and the general public to disregard the rumours and remain focused ahead of the 2027 elections. “Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. Together, we will work to ensure continued democratic dividends for Nigerians,” he added.

In support of Ambode, a political support group known as Ambode Volunteers, led by Balogun Hameed, also refuted the claims. The group called the reports “a smear campaign by political blackmailers posing as journalists.”

They noted that although Ambode was denied the APC ticket in 2019, he has remained loyal to the party and continued to support the current administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“For the avoidance of doubt, ADC is not—and will never be—a platform for Mr. Ambode’s political future. The APC remains his political home,” the group stated.

They attributed the spread of such rumours to “mischief-makers unsettled by Ambode’s rising popularity and growing public support for his return in 2027.”

The group also urged the public to disregard the misinformation and focus on active civic participation, including ensuring voter readiness by securing their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
