Gunmen have abducted Professor Musa Dankyau, a senior lecturer at Bingham University, Abuja, from his home in Plateau State.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Monday at SA Estate along Guratopp Road in Jos South Local Government Area. Armed assailants stormed the estate and forcibly took the professor to an undisclosed location.

The abduction has heightened tension in the local community and within academic circles, with ongoing efforts to secure his release.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the development, stating, “A coordinated effort is ongoing to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.”

This latest incident adds to growing concerns about the safety of academic staff across the country. Just days earlier, on August 3, SaharaReporters reported the rescue of Engineer Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University, who was abducted on July 31 along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Wukari LGA of Taraba State.

Saleh was rescued by Nigerian Army troops from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with Department of State Services (DSS) operatives. Acting on credible intelligence, security forces launched a targeted operation across several communities including Kente, Sondi, Yaku, and Warawa. During a gunfight with the kidnappers, the criminals were overpowered and fled, leaving the victim behind.

Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that Engineer Saleh was found unharmed and reunited with his family.

The recurring cases of abduction have sparked renewed calls for stronger security measures, particularly for academic professionals and vulnerable communities.
