Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Sani Ahmed, editor of the popular Rariya Hausa online newspaper, along the Abuja–Kaduna highway.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Ahmed left Abuja around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday for a programme in Kaduna. At about 10:00 p.m., he reportedly sent a distress message confirming his abduction. Since then, there has been no further contact, and his location remains unknown.

Comrade Yahaya Abdullahi of the Take-It-Back Movement, who last saw Ahmed during a gathering on Sunday, confirmed the development, describing the incident as deeply worrying.

The Abuja–Kaduna expressway has in recent years gained notoriety for frequent armed attacks and kidnappings. Just days earlier, bandits killed five people and abducted two others in separate incidents across Kaduna State, despite Governor Uba Sani’s much-publicised peace initiative.

In Giwa Local Government Area, three men — Alhaji Sagir, Mallam Hassan, and Muhammad — were killed in Nasarawan Fatika village, leaving their families in severe economic distress. Another victim, Badamasi Sani, was murdered on his farm in Galadimawa, while in Chikun Local Government’s Millennium City area, Malam Ibrahim Danjuma was killed and two of his relatives abducted, with his wife sustaining injuries.

These fresh attacks have raised questions about the effectiveness of the Kaduna Peace Model in addressing the state’s worsening insecurity.
