Two staff members of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), were abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday evening, heightening fears over the security situation in Ondo State.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped from their residence along Supare-Akoko Road in Akungba-Akoko, situated in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Akure. He disclosed that police operatives quickly swung into action, resulting in the successful rescue of one of the abducted staff members.
“Yes, two staff members of AAUA were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. Our men responded swiftly and managed to rescue one of them. The Commissioner of Police has directed that the rescued individual be debriefed to gather intelligence that may aid in locating and rescuing the second victim,” Ayanlade stated.
One of the abductees has been identified as Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
According to reports, the incident occurred around 7pm on Monday. Security operatives are continuing their efforts to ensure the safe release of the remaining victim and to apprehend the perpetrators.
The abduction adds to the growing list of security challenges confronting communities in Ondo State, particularly in Akoko axis.
