The Nigeria Police Force has issued a directive instructing all state commands, zonal commands, formations, and specialised units to immediately compile and forward details of officers with doctoral and other academic qualifications.

According to a confidential wireless message obtained by SaharaReporters, the order requires the submission of both hard and soft copies of lists containing the names of officers holding PhD degrees. In addition, copies of study approval letters and certificates for first degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs must be provided.

The directive, marked “urgent,” was issued from Force Headquarters, Abuja, under reference number CB: 4001/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL2/15, and signed by the Force Secretary on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police. It further instructed that soft copies should be compiled in Excel format and saved on a flash drive under clearly labelled headings.

This new order follows an earlier May 15, 2025, directive where police authorities requested all commands to submit lists of inspectors and rank-and-file officers with advanced degrees as part of preparations for a promotion exercise. That directive also included officers who had received approvals for study leave.

Commands in Kano, Jos, Ikeja, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Enugu, Oji-River, and other locations have been instructed to comply without delay.

Quoting from the earlier communication, the police authorities had stressed:

“The Intelligence Police directs, as a matter of urgency, that you send a list of all officers — inspectors and rank-and-file — currently serving under your command who hold doctorate degrees (PhD). Additionally, please forward information regarding officers with approved postings for study, including those with first degrees, master’s degrees, and PhD certificates.”

The directive is expected to streamline academic record verification within the Force and ensure proper documentation ahead of upcoming promotions.
