The Nigeria Police Force has announced the commencement of its 2025 Departmental Selection Board (DSB) exercise aimed at promoting eligible Inspectors across the country to higher ranks.

This was disclosed in an internal wireless signal from the Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, dated October 9, 2025. The directive, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, mandates all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to convene the DSB for Inspectors confirmed on or before December 31, 2020.

According to the circular, the promotion exercise will take place simultaneously across all police zones from December 1 to December 12, 2025. Inspectors serving in Force Headquarters Annexes, Training Schools, Formations, Airports, Cooperative, and Marine Units are to participate in the DSB sessions within their respective zones of domicile.

Eligibility criteria require that candidates must have scored at least three consecutive “B” grades or higher in their Annual Performance Evaluation Reports (APER) for 2022, 2023, and 2024, and must not have any pending or subsisting disciplinary cases.

The memo further directed that completed Police Form 81 and Form F.O. 301 for each candidate, along with all necessary reports, be submitted to the Force Secretary’s office on or before December 19, 2025, in both soft and hard copies. Soft copies are to be submitted in Excel format via email to promotionsforsec.npf@gmail.com.

Zonal AIGs will serve as Chairmen of the respective DSB panels, while State Commissioners of Police (CPs) will act as members.

The directive emphasized that the exercise is to be treated as “very important” and implemented without delay as part of ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism, morale, and career progression within the Nigeria Police Force.
