The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receiving 110 applications from various associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the disclosure on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, stating that the commission is currently processing the applications in strict accordance with the provisions of the law, as well as its Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
“As of Monday, June 23, 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations wishing to register as political parties,” Yakubu said. “We are diligently processing these requests in line with the procedures outlined in the Electoral Act and our guidelines.”

He further revealed that all but six of the applications had been acknowledged as of the time of his briefing. “The six recently submitted applications will also be acknowledged before the end of the week,” he added.
Professor Yakubu encouraged Nigerians, especially groups interested in political party registration, to familiarize themselves with the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022, available on the Commission’s official website.
In a move towards transparency, INEC has published the full list of the 110 applying associations. The list includes each group’s proposed name, acronym, address, and the names of their chairpersons and secretaries.
“The complete list will soon be available on our website and social media platforms. Hard copies have also been provided in your meeting folders,” Yakubu stated.
