JAMB Suspends Accounts of Students Who Sued Board Over Post-UTME Irregularities Despite Court Order

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended the online accounts of several prospective university students who dragged the board and two universities—University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)—to court over alleged irregularities in the 2025/2026 Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME).

The move comes in defiance of an Ex Parte Order issued by the Federal High Court in Enugu, which directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the students’ suit.

The students, represented by F.K. Nnadi & Co., had sued JAMB, UNILAG, and OAU over alleged wrongful flagging for malpractice and mismatched scores, which they claimed resulted from a technical glitch in the institutions’ web test software.

Despite the court order, the students’ JAMB portal accounts were suspended, effectively cutting them off from accessing their admission information.

Activist Raises Alarm

Education advocate and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, revealed the development on X (formerly Twitter), sharing screenshots of affected students’ accounts, including that of Monsura Aliat Aduragbemi.

“I’m sad! JAMB has suspended the accounts of the students that we raised a petition with against UNILAG and OAU.
The same OAU and UNILAG who claimed they hadn’t received the Motion Ex-Parte have now gone to appeal. This is wickedness,” Onyia wrote.

Onyia had earlier accused the universities of mishandling candidates’ results, saying over 752 reports were compiled from students allegedly affected by the software error.

“UNILAG, OAU, and UI are toying with the destinies of young Nigerians. There was a major bug with the Web Test system that affected the students,” he alleged.

Court’s Intervention

Justice Mabel Segun-Bello of the Federal High Court, Enugu, had on September 30, 2025, issued an order halting all ongoing admission activities at UNILAG and OAU.
The ruling restrained both universities and JAMB from releasing or validating any admission lists until the main suit is heard.

The students—Chibuzor Success, Oyeleye Zainab Ayomide, Adedeji John Samuel, Monsura Aliat Aduragbemi, and Bassey Daniel Nsikak—asked the court to restrain JAMB and the universities from finalizing the 2025/2026 admission process pending the case’s outcome.

Justice Segun-Bello’s ruling emphasized that there was a “veritable and triable issue” that required both sides to be heard, adding that “all parties should maintain the current state of affairs” until the motion on notice is determined.

The case has been adjourned to October 28, 2025.

JAMB Yet to Respond

When contacted by SaharaReporters on Friday, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, had not responded to inquiries regarding the reason behind the account suspensions.

The situation has sparked outrage among education rights advocates and students, who accuse the examination body of contempt of court and abuse of power.
