The Kaduna State Police Comhas arrested a woman, Zaliha Shuaibu, for allegedly killing her co-wife’s three-month-old baby in Malari Village, located in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mansir Hassan, the tragic incident occurred on May 13, 2025, at the family residence shared by the suspect, her husband, and the baby’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim.
Hassan stated that Maryam had briefly left her child alone in her room to use the restroom. Upon her return, she found Shuaibu holding the infant. When the baby was returned to her, Maryam noticed foam coming from his mouth and a neck injury. The child was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Maryam Ibrahim had left her infant son unattended while she went to the bathroom. When she came back, she saw Zaliha Shuaibu with the baby, who was found in distress with visible signs of harm,” Hassan explained.

The police investigation later revealed that Shuaibu had conspired with her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad—currently on the run—to carry out the act. Shuaibu reportedly confessed to using acid, allegedly supplied by Muhammad, in the attack.
“The Divisional Police Officer in Soba acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of Zaliha Shuaibu. During questioning, she admitted to the crime and named Lawal Muhammad as an accomplice,” the PPRO added.
Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, assured the public that a full investigation is ongoing and that all those found to be involved will face justice in accordance with the law.
