A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died in a hotel room during an alleged sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level female student. The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and was later reported to the Anyigba Police Division.

According to police sources, the lecturer, who was married with children, checked into the hotel alongside the student, identified as Gloria Samuel, a second-year Social Studies Education undergraduate. During their stay, the lecturer reportedly collapsed after consuming several energy drinks and engaging in sexual activity. Efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command described the event as “unfortunate.” Police spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, stated that the hotel manager, Moses Friday, notified the police after the student rushed to the front desk to report the lecturer’s collapse.

“The DPO immediately mobilized officers to the scene, and the lecturer was taken to the hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead,” SP Aya said. He also noted that the student involved has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning and potential prosecution.

An autopsy has been conducted to determine the exact cause of death, although results have yet to be released as of the time of reporting.

Dr. Ibikunle, who was reportedly known on campus for his strictness, had also been accused by some students of sexually exploiting female undergraduates in exchange for academic favors.

The university is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
