The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of 39-year-old Mrs. Esther Enemo, a pregnant woman, in Temidire community along Egbejila Road, Ilorin, the state capital.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to the statement, a resident alerted the police about suspected foul play at the home of Mr. Ekene Enemo. Detectives who arrived at the scene discovered the victim’s dismembered body in a bush behind her residence. Additional body parts were later recovered inside a sack hidden beneath a nearby community bridge.

A key suspect, 29-year-old Mr. Sylvester Enemo, the younger brother of the victim’s husband, was arrested after he was reportedly seen leaving the house shortly before the discovery. The police have also contacted the victim’s husband for questioning.

The remains of Mrs. Enemo have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full investigation, assuring residents that justice will be served. He urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculations capable of heightening fear or tension in the community.

Eyewitnesses in the area told reporters that the victim had been alone at home on Wednesday night. She was said to have received a visitor and was last seen buying drinks and pepper soup before returning indoors. By dawn, neighbours noticed her husband’s younger brother leaving the house with a black nylon bag, leaving behind a trail of blood.

Further searches by residents led to the shocking discovery of human parts in the bush and under a bridge, with her head still missing. The development has fueled suspicions of ritual motives, drawing parallels with a similar killing in Ilorin earlier this year involving a self-styled cleric.

The police assured that security has been reinforced across the state and called on residents to provide credible information that could assist investigations.
