The final burial arrangements for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Frederick Akinloye Iyanda Owolabi Olakunlehin, have been officially announced. The revered monarch, who passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 8, 2025, after a week-long series of commemorative events.

According to the official programme obtained by National Insight, the funeral rites will begin on Monday, August 4, and culminate in the final funeral service and interment on August 8. The events are expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, reflecting the deep respect commanded by the late traditional ruler.

Honour Through Sports and Devotion

The week of activities will celebrate Oba Olakunlehin’s enduring legacy, particularly his devotion to youth empowerment, unity, and communal development. A mix of sporting events and religious services will highlight his passion for community engagement and service.
