The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a six-month travel ban on renowned Fuji musician and staunch ally of President Bola Tinubu, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate. The sanction follows his disruptive behaviour at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Announcing the decision during a press briefing on Thursday, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, revealed that the musician violated critical aviation safety protocols during an incident aboard a ValueJet flight on August 5.

SaharaReporters previously detailed how K1’s conduct led to chaos on the tarmac. Eyewitnesses described his actions as “thuggish” and “dangerous,” with one alleging that he poured water on a female pilot and issued threats, boasting of his connections in the presidency.

The incident reportedly began when a flight attendant asked K1 to surrender a personal flask suspected of containing alcohol. The singer refused, claiming it was a medicinal concoction prescribed by his doctor. As the confrontation escalated, airline officials decided to deboard him.

However, in a dramatic twist, K1 allegedly moved to block the aircraft from departing by standing in front of it. The ValueJet crew proceeded with takeoff procedures without full clearance, forcing ground personnel and K1 to scramble for safety under the wings—a move the NCAA described as reckless.

In response to the breach, the NCAA has also suspended two ValueJet pilots involved for violating standard takeoff procedures.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) corroborated the incident in a separate statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Mrs Obiageli Orah. She confirmed that K1 spilled alcohol on airport security officials after refusing to comply with screening regulations.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the passenger attempted to board with an unidentified liquid exceeding the 100ml limit, against national and international aviation security regulations,” the statement noted. “Despite repeated warnings, he refused to comply and acted aggressively.”

The statement further revealed that after ignoring repeated instructions to leave the aircraft vicinity, the singer was escorted away by the AVSEC crime unit but later released.

FAAN reiterated its commitment to upholding aviation safety, warning that it will not tolerate behaviour that endangers passengers or disrupts airport operations, regardless of the individual’s status.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say all parties found culpable will face appropriate legal consequences.
