Tragedy has struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following the death of a young man identified as Hilary, who reportedly fell victim to a brutal homophobic attack.
According to multiple reports, Hilary was lured by unknown individuals under false pretenses before being violently assaulted and thrown from a two-storey building. He sustained severe spinal cord injuries and later died from complications resulting from the attack.
Human rights advocate Jide Macaulay confirmed Hilary’s death in an emotional Instagram post, expressing heartbreak over the incident. Macaulay lamented that Hilary’s death marks the second “kito-related” fatality in Nigeria within just two weeks—a disturbing reminder of the dangers faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community in the country.
In his tribute, Macaulay described Hilary as a victim of hate and intolerance, calling for compassion, justice, and stronger protections for vulnerable groups.
Hilary’s death has sparked widespread grief and outrage across social media, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and safety for all citizens regardless of sexual orientation.
