The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 951 officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The promotion was confirmed through an internal wireless message from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, addressed to senior police formations nationwide. According to the document, the newly promoted officers are to assume their new ranks with effect from the dates indicated against their names.
The directive, with reference number SH.4730/FS/FHQ/ABJ/T.1/58, was circulated to all zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police across the 36 states, and key police units including INTERPOL, MOPOL, FCID, Maritime, Airwing, Bomb Disposal, Border Patrol, and Counter-Terrorism Units.
Part of the message read:
“POLSCOM in its letter No. PSC/PROM/1/1096/II dated 20/08/2025, on the IGP’s recommendation, has approved the promotion of the under-listed ASPs to the substantive rank of DSPs with effect from the dates indicated against their names.”
Some of the officers promoted include: Maidawa Yakubu (AP126345), Edwin A. Thomas (AP129283), Chagga Yakubu (AP136869), Ofem Liket Hassan (AP130266), Sabo Danladi Mamuda (AP137436), Omini Dickson (AP134041), Bassey Alobo (AP132333), Enyinnaya Ejimadu (AP132430), and Grace Dkon (AP132337).
The list, obtained by SaharaReporters, contains a total of 951 officers drawn from all states of the federation and specialised police units.

This development comes amid mounting criticism of the police force over corruption, poor welfare packages, and irregularities in recruitment processes. It also follows the July 21 protest led by activist Omoyele Sowore, where demonstrators demanded improved welfare and adequate retirement benefits for police personnel.
Although the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has set up a committee to address welfare concerns, the force is simultaneously pursuing legal action against Sowore, accusing him of inciting mutiny through the protest.
Observers believe the latest promotion exercise signals the PSC’s attempt to boost morale within the force while broader concerns over police welfare and accountability remain unresolved.
