The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a significant drop in nationwide fuel consumption for June 2025, with total evacuation falling to 1.44 billion litres.

According to the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, George Ene-Ita, the daily average stood at 48 million litres — an upward correction from earlier figures of 38.94 million litres. The June total marks a 16.42% decline compared to May’s 1.77 billion litres, representing a drop of over 290 million litres.
Lagos State topped the consumption chart with 205.66 million litres, followed by Ogun (88.69 million litres), the Federal Capital Territory (77.51 million litres), and Oyo (72.81 million litres).
The breakdown by product showed mixed trends:
- Diesel (Automobile Gas Oil) supply rose by 1.73% to 432.18 million litres, but distribution fell sharply by 23.23% to 424.06 million litres.
- Household kerosene supply and distribution both declined by 13%, dropping to 7.79 million litres from nearly nine million litres in May.
- Automotive gasoline saw the steepest fall, with supply plunging by almost 48% to 37.66 million litres and distribution down by 16.54%.
The NMDPRA noted that the overall drop in fuel supply and distribution reflects ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, which continue to impact national consumption patterns.
