The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that any commissioner who fails to comply with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive mandating the wearing of the “Asiwaju cap” during Executive Council meetings will face suspension from the party.
The state APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, made this known during a recent television interview, describing such noncompliance as “indiscipline and insubordination.”
Governor Okpebholo had earlier instructed all commissioners to wear the specially branded cap — a symbol of support and loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — during state functions and Exco meetings.
Tenebe said the directive was part of efforts to show solidarity with the President and demonstrate Edo APC’s commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If you refuse to wear the cap as the governor directed, we will suspend you. That is indiscipline and insubordination,” he said.
“We have promised 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027, and everyone has keyed into achieving that target. If, as a member of the APC, you got an appointment, you are expected to be loyal to the President. Those complaining are not true APC members. No Asiwaju cap, no Exco.”
Governor Okpebholo, while swearing in newly confirmed commissioners on October 14, reminded them that President Tinubu’s political support was crucial to his victory and urged all appointees to show their allegiance through the “Asiwaju-branded” attire.
He emphasized that defaulters would be barred from subsequent Executive Council meetings.
