The Nigerian government has announced the cancellation of the traditional military parade for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, scheduled for Thursday, June 12.

In a statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration, it was revealed that President Bola Tinubu will instead deliver a nationwide broadcast at 7:00 a.m., followed by his appearance at a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12:00 noon.
The joint session will include speeches reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey, current national challenges, and the push for unity and reform.
Later in the day, at 4:00 p.m., a public lecture will be held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. The event will bring together government officials, political leaders, and civil society stakeholders under the theme: “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
Citizens are encouraged to tune in to the national broadcast and engage in discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
