The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, has inaugurated the foundation of the Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre—a landmark project designed to preserve cultural heritage, empower local artisans, and drive sustainable economic growth in the ancient city.

Oba Ghandi, who was represented at the event by prominent traditional figures including the Aare Ago of Ogbomosoland, Chief Samuel Otolorin; the Iyalode of Ogbomosoland, Chief Mrs. Ogundare; and the Onifedegbo of Fedegbo, described the project as a vital step in the town’s long-term development vision.

The centre, sited at the Ultra Modern Market in Fedegbo, is a key component of Ogbomoso’s 25-Year Developmental Plan. Named the Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre, it will serve as a hub for innovation in indigenous textile craftsmanship, particularly Aso-Ofi weaving. Facilities will include modern weaving units, training halls, and learning spaces designed to equip youths with valuable vocational skills and turn traditional art into viable enterprises.
In a message shared via his official social media handle, Oba Ghandi highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating, “This is more than a building—it’s a legacy of industry, dignity, and self-reliance. Ogbomoso is proud of you. I am proud of you. Future generations will rise and call you blessed.”
He extended heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished son of Ogbomoso who singlehandedly funded the project, while urging other patriotic indigenes to contribute meaningfully to the town’s growth and transformation.
The Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre is poised to become a key cultural and economic landmark in Oyo State, reinforcing Ogbomoso’s stature as a city of tradition-driven innovation.
