Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is likely to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition.
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Monday, Sheriff said credible information available to him suggests that Obi is gearing up to rejoin the PDP and contest for its presidential ticket.

“Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party because his ambition is to become president. The information I have is that, any moment from now, he will rejoin the PDP and run on that platform,” Sheriff stated.
He added that the development would place Obi in direct competition with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, whom he believes do not currently control any significant political structures in key states.
Obi, who recently aligned with other opposition figures under a coalition formed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has signalled interest in the 2027 presidential race. The coalition’s objective is to build a strong front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the APC government led by President Bola Tinubu has mocked the recent coalition moves by opposition politicians, labelling them “internally displaced” for frequently switching political affiliations.
Sheriff’s comments have added fresh momentum to ongoing speculations around Obi’s next political move as the race towards 2027 gradually gathers steam.
