The coalition of local government workers in the Ogbomoso Zone, known as Ogo Ogbomoso, on Thursday organized a grand reception in honour of Hon. Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, popularly called Wolekanle, the newly appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).

Held at the Lagbami Osekun Civic Hall in Ogbomoso South Local Government, the colourful event attracted a diverse crowd of stakeholders, including the Zonal Permanent Secretary of the LGSC, top officials of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local government administrators from across the state.

Chairman of Ogo Ogbomoso, Mr. Adegboyega Adeniran, described Wolekanle as “a committed and consistent force in Oyo State politics,” while commending Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing a worthy son of Ogbomoso to such a vital position.

“This appointment is a victory not just for Ogbomoso but for the entire local government system in Oyo State,” Adeniran remarked. He also noted that the occasion marked a triple celebration — Wolekanle’s appointment, his birthday, and his housewarming.

Deacon Taiwo Adewale, Permanent Secretary of the LGSC, echoed similar sentiments, describing Wolekanle as “a round peg in a round hole,” and praised his compassionate and intelligent leadership style. “He listens. He leads with empathy. This appointment is no mistake,” he said.

Among other dignitaries present were Hon. George Ogunlade (Chairman, Ogbomoso North LG), Hon. Isaiah Adegbite (Chairman, Surulere LG), and Hon. Mujidat Kareem (Vice Chairman, Ogbomoso South LG), who all lauded Governor Makinde for his unwavering support of workers, particularly the regular payment of salaries.

In a spiritual address, Bishop David Moradeyo of the Methodist Diocese of Ogbomoso encouraged unity among members of Ogo Ogbomoso and called on them to “protect, defend, and support the glory in your midst.”

NULGE State President, Comrade Olusegun Adegun, commended Governor Makinde for his focus on grassroots development and described Wolekanle as a perfect embodiment of the governor’s vision for the local government system.

Visibly moved by the outpouring of goodwill, Wolekanle expressed profound gratitude and reaffirmed his dedication to discipline, transparency, and inclusive governance.

“I remain committed to justice, probity, and equity, in line with the LGSC law,” he stated. “I am pleased to announce the elevation of 21 senior officers — including 9 substantive Heads of Local Government Administration and 12 Acting Heads. Their posting letters will be issued immediately.”

He also called for open communication, inviting stakeholders to provide constructive feedback to strengthen the commission’s performance.

The ceremony was rounded off with goodwill messages from local government heads, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.
