The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has been laid to rest in the Oyo State capital with the dignity befitting both his royal and military service.
The funeral service, held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, drew dignitaries from across the country who joined family, friends, and residents to honour the revered monarch’s life and legacy.
Oba Olakulehin’s coffin, draped in the Nigerian national flag and adorned with military regalia, reflected his service as a major in the Nigerian Army before his retirement in 1979.
Delivering the sermon, Archbishop Williams Aladekugbe of the Anglican Communion’s Ibadan Province praised the late monarch’s enduring contributions to the city, describing him as “more than a king — a father, guide, and beacon of hope.”
He highlighted the Olubadan’s reign as one marked by unity, peace, and cultural preservation, noting his tireless commitment to the welfare of his people and his role in fostering dialogue among diverse groups.
“His dedication to justice and the prosperity of Ibadan will continue to inspire generations,” the archbishop said, urging mourners to honour the monarch’s memory by upholding the values of love, service, and unity he championed.
With the final burial rites completed, preparations for the enthronement of the 44th Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, will now proceed in earnest following his nomination and endorsement by the Olubadan-in-Council.
