A Superintendent of Police (SP) serving with the Bauchi State Police Command, Mustapha Garba, lost his life in a fatal car accident on Saturday while traveling to his own wedding ceremony.
SP Garba was en route from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State when the crash occurred. He was accompanied by three friends in a Mercedes Benz when their vehicle lost control at the Bargan Tsamiya area, veered off its lane, and collided head-on with an oncoming Opel Vectra.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said the accident happened shortly before the scheduled wedding fatiha. He noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, promptly directed the Divisional Police Officer in Toro to mobilize officers and ensure swift evacuation of the victims to the Toro General Hospital.
“SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to attend his own wedding when this tragic incident occurred,” Wakil said. “He was in the company of three friends when their car veered off its lane and collided with another vehicle.”
A doctor at the hospital confirmed that SP Garba and two of his companions died on the spot. Their remains have since been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as a painful loss for the entire command.
