The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Wale Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Fisayo Ajetumobi to death during a dispute over a ₦14,000 debt.
Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that the tragedy occurred on September 13 around 6:30 p.m. at a construction site in Litaye Camp, Ondo East Local Government Area.
According to Ayanlade, Ibrahim had visited the site to demand payment from one Gabriel Oyeniran for wood sold to him. An argument broke out between Ibrahim and Oyeniran, during which Ibrahim reportedly became violent and stabbed Ajetumobi in the chest. The victim died instantly.
The suspect was promptly arrested and has since been charged to court.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act and warned residents against resorting to violence in resolving disputes. He urged the public to work with law enforcement by providing timely information to help prevent crime.
