Tragedy struck Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday as armed bandits attacked the Motokun and Agboro communities, killing one person, abducting six others, and leaving several residents injured.
In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident. She said six residents of Motokun were kidnapped during the late-night raid, while six others sustained gunshot injuries.
“One of the victims, a woman, later died in the hospital. The remaining injured persons are receiving treatment,” she stated.
According to the police, the assailants later stormed Agboro, targeting a private company. During the attack, a police officer was killed in the line of duty, and several properties at the facility were vandalized.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims.
The command also announced that patrols and surveillance in the area had been intensified to prevent further attacks.
“The Kwara State Police Command commiserates with the families of those affected by this tragic incident and assures residents of its unwavering commitment to their safety,” the statement read.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay security-conscious, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.
