Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary suspension of his public and official activities to attend to his health.
Obi disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, explaining that the decision followed medical advice after he felt unwell during engagements in Enugu.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days’ rest,” he stated.
The former governor noted that the development would prevent him from attending several scheduled activities both within and outside Nigeria this weekend.
“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi said.
Before announcing the break, Obi had highlighted some of his recent activities, including a visit to Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The facility, being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, received an initial donation of ₦10 million from him to support its acquisition and revitalisation.
He praised the Diocese’s vision of transforming the hospital into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, describing healthcare as one of the most meaningful investments for national development.
Obi also recounted his attendance at a dinner in Owerri hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Despite his active engagements in recent days, Obi stressed that his health remains a priority and assured that he would adhere strictly to medical guidance.
