American rapper Snoop Dogg has sparked conversation after admitting he feels uneasy about going to the movies due to the increasing presence of LGBTQ+ storylines in children’s films.

The 53-year-old entertainer shared his experience on the It’s Giving podcast, recalling a trip to the cinema with his grandson to watch Pixar’s 2022 release Lightyear. He said he was caught off guard by a scene showing one of the main characters in a same-sex relationship.
Snoop described the moment:
“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere. My grandson looked at me and said, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’ I thought, ‘Oh sh–, I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.’”
He added that his grandson kept asking questions about the scene, leaving him feeling unprepared to answer:
“It threw me for a loop. These are kids. We have to show that at this age? I don’t have the answer.”
Lightyear, a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, follows the backstory of Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Chris Evans. The film features the character Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) in a same-sex relationship, showing a montage of her marrying her partner, Kiko, and raising a child. The scene initially faced removal but was later reinstated after protests from Pixar staff.
Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has previously faced criticism for remarks considered homophobic and transphobic, including comments about Caitlyn Jenner and a 2014 social media post containing an anti-gay slur. Some LGBTQ+ advocates have called for him to be removed as the headline performer at the upcoming Australian Football League Grand Final.
