The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has extended its strike ultimatum to the Federal Government by two more weeks.
The unions had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum over unresolved welfare matters, warning of a possible nationwide strike if their demands were not met.

In a fresh letter addressed to all chapters on Tuesday, JAC said the extension followed a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, held on Friday, September 19, 2025.
According to the letter, SSANU President Muhammed Ibrahim explained that while the government set up a joint consultative committee to address the issues, no concrete resolutions were reached during the meeting.
“The deliberations focused on our demands, but the government is yet to meet our requests. This has made it necessary to continue engagements,” the unions stated.
The demands of SSANU and NASU include the fair disbursement of earned allowances, payment of outstanding entitlements, and resolution of other welfare-related grievances affecting members in universities and inter-university centres.
The unions warned that if the government fails to resolve the outstanding issues within the extended ultimatum period, they will embark on a series of “legitimate industrial actions.”
“This two-week extension provides the government with another opportunity to address our concerns. Failure to act will leave us with no option but to proceed with industrial action,” the letter concluded.
