The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement in Jigawa State has announced plans to embark on a peaceful mass protest in Dutse on Friday to demand urgent government action over rising hunger, harsh taxation policies, and worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement signed by Engr. Sani Aminu Taura, on behalf of the TIB Jigawa State Chapter, the group said the demonstration aims to draw attention to the growing hardships faced by Nigerians under the current economic and social conditions.
“This is not a riot — it is a cry for justice. It is the voice of the forgotten, the hungry, the jobless, and the oppressed,” the statement emphasized.
The movement condemned what it described as “anti-poor government policies” that continue to burden citizens through excessive taxation and neglect of basic welfare.
“We can no longer remain silent while the poor are taxed to death, while hunger ravages families, and insecurity spreads unchecked,” it added.
The group further stated that the protest would demand:
- An end to unfair tax reforms targeting the poor
- Urgent measures to tackle hunger and poverty
- Real security for citizens
- A stop to forced evictions and other “anti-people” reforms
“Our message is clear: we will not be silent while the people suffer. The streets of Jigawa will speak today — peacefully, boldly, and with one voice,” TIB declared.
This demonstration comes as part of a broader nationwide action jointly organized by TIB and the Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MoTion), calling for an end to what they describe as “anti-people” policies under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to a separate statement signed by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, Lagos State Coordinator of TIB, the nationwide protest is scheduled to commence at 7 a.m. at the Lagos State House of Assembly, with participation expected from workers, students, traders, and unemployed youths.
