A tragic accident at Soka, along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, claimed multiple lives on Tuesday, leaving residents in shock and authorities scrambling for answers.
The fatal collision involved four trailers, four Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry. Eyewitnesses say the chain-reaction crash began when a trailer attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station was hit by an oncoming trailer. Three other trailers following closely behind were unable to stop in time and rammed into the scene, crushing four Micra taxis and a Camry in the process.
Among the victims was a couple who had just boarded one of the Micra taxis at Sanyo, a short distance from the crash site. Tragically, the wife died instantly, while her husband, who was seated in the front seat, survived with only minor injuries.
Four people in the same Micra, including the driver, were confirmed dead. Several others suffered varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals by emergency responders.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed the incident and has evacuated the remains of the deceased. The agency has also launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
This devastating accident marks the sixth fatal road incident in the Soka axis so far in 2025, raising concerns about safety and the urgent need for stricter traffic regulation in the area.
