A UK-based digital forensics investigator has petitioned the Florida Attorney General’s Office, seeking updates and transparency regarding alleged property acquisitions linked to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and his family.

Henry Omorere, a researcher at Teesside University, submitted the petition on September 21, 2025, requesting confirmation and details about ongoing investigations into alleged money laundering, public corruption, and related financial crimes.

The petition names Wike, his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike, and their three children—Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne—alleging that millions of dollars’ worth of Florida real estate were purchased using illicit funds.

Omorere’s letter, addressed to Florida Attorney General Hon. James Uthmeier and copied to the Florida Supreme Court and Public Information Office, cites multiple media reports—including SaharaReporters, BusinessDay, and Peoples Gazette—and statements from Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore as evidence of public interest in the case.

According to the petition, Wike, whose official annual salary is estimated at about $5,000, allegedly used his wife and children to acquire three Florida properties through cash purchases and quitclaim deeds designed to conceal his involvement.

The properties listed include:

  • 113 Spring Creek Lane – a $2 million mansion purchased in March 2025
  • 209 Hertherwood Court – bought for $459,157 in July 2021 and later transferred to his son, Joaquin
  • 208 Hertherwood Court – purchased for $465,000 in September 2023 and transferred to his daughter, Jazmyne

Omorere alleges that the transactions were structured to evade Nigeria’s asset disclosure laws and may amount to first-degree felonies under Florida law as well as violations of the U.S. Money Laundering Control Act.

The petition requests:

  • Confirmation of Receipt – proof that the Attorney General’s office received Sowore’s earlier petition on the matter
  • Investigation Status Update – disclosure of whether the case is under active investigation, referred to another agency (e.g., FBI or IRS Criminal Investigation), or closed
  • Identification of Intermediaries – details of law firms, real estate attorneys, financial institutions, brokers, and corporate entities involved in facilitating the property acquisitions

Omorere stressed the case’s significance for U.S.-Nigeria anti-corruption cooperation, citing a recent precedent where $52.88 million in stolen assets was returned to Nigeria.

“This case presents another critical opportunity to uphold the principles of justice and demonstrate that the U.S. financial system is not a safe haven for the proceeds of foreign corruption,” he wrote, signing the letter as “a concerned global citizen and advocate for transparency and the rule of law.”

The Florida Attorney General’s office has not yet issued a public response to the petition.
