Community Chest Council Reaffirms Commitment to Human Rights and Democracy at One-Year Anniversary in Oyo State
Ibadan, Nigeria – The Community Chest Council (CCC) in Oyo State marked its one-year anniversary with a renewed pledge to uphold democratic values, defend human rights, and champion social welfare for all. The commemorative event, held in Ibadan, brought together stakeholders from civil society, faith-based organisations, government agencies, and the wider public to celebrate the Council’s achievements and chart a vision for the future.
Addressing attendees, the Chairman of the Council, Dr. Oluwasogo Ayodele, underscored the organisation’s enduring commitment to integrity, inclusivity, and service. He described the Council’s first year as one of foundational progress, collaboration, and increasing impact.
“As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of the trust the people have placed in us,” Dr. Ayodele said. “We remain steadfast in our mission to serve the vulnerable, advocate for justice, and promote a society where every individual can live with dignity.”
A Voice for the Vulnerable
Established as the umbrella body for all registered non-profit, community-based, faith-based, and voluntary organisations operating in the social welfare sector across Oyo State, the Community Chest Council has quickly grown into a critical platform for advocacy, coordination, and action. Its motto, “Passion for Humanity,” reflects its vision of inclusive development and human dignity.
Over the past year, the CCC has implemented a range of initiatives to support its members and target communities. Among these are:
Financial support for member organisations, aimed at strengthening their capacity to deliver critical services.
Partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion to establish a Social Welfare Trust Fund, a mechanism designed to provide sustained support for homes and vulnerable populations.
Public outreach through a weekly radio programme, “CCC Half Hour,” which educates the public on social welfare issues and promotes civic responsibility.
Establishment of a Funds and Food Committee, which has helped to channel essential resources—such as food and basic supplies—to facilities in need.
Monthly capacity-building seminars, which provide training, networking, and development opportunities for over 250 registered member organisations.
To improve coordination and responsiveness, the CCC has also been restructured into zonal formations, allowing for more localised engagement and increased efficiency in service delivery.
“We are committed to leaving no one behind,” Dr. Ayodele declared. “Our mission is to amplify the voices of the unheard and ensure that human dignity is not a privilege but a right.”
Safeguarding the Future: A Call to End Child Labour
One of the key highlights of the anniversary event was a powerful keynote address by Pastor Tunji Agboola, Executive Director of Goodworker Ministry International, who spoke passionately about the ongoing threat of child labour.
“Child labour is a violation of fundamental human rights,” Pastor Agboola said. “Education is not just a right—it is the foundation of a prosperous society. Every child denied education is a future stolen.”
He urged both parents and policymakers to prioritise education and to stand firm against exploitative practices that endanger children’s well-being. Pastor Agboola also echoed calls for the formal institutionalisation of a state-backed Social Welfare Trust Fund, which he said could serve as a lifeline for many families in economic distress.
Government Endorsement and Community Engagement
Representing the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mr. Oke, a senior director, delivered a message of support on behalf of Commissioner Mrs. Toyin Balogun. He commended the CCC’s dedication and affirmed the government’s readiness to continue its collaboration with the Council.
“We recognise the incredible work being done by the Community Chest Council,” he said. “Together, we can build a more compassionate and inclusive Oyo State.”
Celebration and Reflection
The anniversary celebration also included a vibrant lineup of activities: children’s cultural performances, the inauguration of newly created zonal leadership structures, and the joint commemoration of Democracy Day and Children’s Day 2025. These events served not only as entertainment but also as poignant reminders of the Council’s mission to empower future generations.
As the CCC enters its second year, Dr. Ayodele stated that the focus will be on consolidating past gains, expanding food and funding support for social homes, and enriching the Council’s educational and training programs.
“This is only the beginning,” he said. “Our passion for humanity will drive us forward, and with unity, we will achieve even greater impact.”
