Porto-Novo, Benin Republic
The Yoruba Kaaro Ojiire Association of Benin Republic marked its second anniversary with a colourful cultural celebration on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Cite Abesan in Porto-Novo. The event, held under the leadership of President Alhaja Latifatou Waidi and Alhaji Wahab Amadani, drew notable dignitaries and cultural enthusiasts from across the region.

Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Jean-Michel Abimbola, Honourable Minister of Arts and Culture of Benin Republic; Honourable Charlemagne Yankoty, Mayor of Porto-Novo; and a delegation from Isokan Omo Yoruba du Benin led by Secretary Macaire Onilude and Vice Mayor of Ifonyin, Elhadja Marufat Falola.

Also in attendance was the Nigerian Yoruba community in Benin Republic, led by Alhaji Mutiu Adelabu Ola-Oluwa. In his address, he commended the organisers for their efforts in preserving Yoruba culture and language, and offered prayers for continued unity among Yoruba cultural promoters across the diaspora.
The celebration featured traditional Yoruba performances, including Egungun masquerade displays and rhythmic drumming, which thrilled the audience and showcased the rich heritage of the Yoruba people.
Other notable attendees included Oba Afis Akinwale Akinropo, the Olubadan of Cotonou; Alhaji Fatai Akanho, Chairman of the Oyo community in Benin Republic; representatives of the Saki Parapo group—Alhaji Salami Isau and Alhaji Muniru Gbadamasi—as well as Alhaji Saliu Kanisuru of Ilorin.
The event served as a reaffirmation of the Yoruba people’s commitment to preserving their culture, language, and identity, especially in diaspora communities across West Africa.
