Outgoing Benin President has expressed confidence in President-elect ahead of his inauguration on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
In a farewell message to the nation, Talon described Wadagni’s upcoming tenure as “a delicate and exciting mission” aimed at advancing Benin’s progress and improving the welfare of citizens over the next seven years.
The outgoing president congratulated Wadagni and wished him success as he prepares to formally assume office.
Reflecting on his own decade in power, Talon thanked Beninese citizens for their support and resilience throughout what he called an “arduous path” marked by reforms, infrastructure projects, and efforts to strengthen state institutions and drive socio-economic development.
He acknowledged that the journey had not always been easy but said the challenges helped shape the administration’s achievements.
According to Talon, Benin’s progress over the past ten years has attracted admiration from the international community, with the benefits of reforms gradually becoming visible across the country and among citizens in the diaspora.
The outgoing leader described serving the country as a great honour and expressed gratitude to the Beninese people for their trust and support during his administration.
Talon also paid tribute to his wife, Claudine Gbénagnon Kpoviessi Talon, praising her affection, patience, and guidance throughout his time in office.
He further thanked friends, allies, and supporters who stood by him during his presidency.
As he prepares to hand over power, Talon said he believes Wadagni’s leadership will help Benin make even greater strides toward national development and prosperity.
He called on citizens to unite behind the incoming president in the interest of national progress and collective prosperity.
The message ended with patriotic remarks celebrating the Republic of Benin and the country’s future.
