Suspected gunmen have killed Major General Hassan Ahmed, a senior officer of the Nigerian Army, and abducted his wife during an attack in the Abaji area of Abuja.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred while the couple was returning from Okene in Kogi State. Sources said the assailants ambushed their vehicle and opened fire, killing the senior military officer instantly.
The driver of the vehicle was said to have survived the attack after pretending to be dead. The attackers subsequently whisked away the general’s wife to an unknown destination.
Until his death, Maj. Gen. Ahmed served as a director at the Army Headquarters following his appointment by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya. He had earlier served as the Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army.
The killing has further heightened concerns over the growing wave of insecurity, kidnappings, and deadly attacks along major highways and within parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Security agencies are yet to release an official statement on the incident as efforts continue to rescue the abducted wife and track down the attackers.
