President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, praising security agencies for bringing their 56-day ordeal to an end.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for carrying out a coordinated operation that secured the victims’ release without casualties among the hostages.

Tinubu also applauded security operatives for arresting eight suspected kidnappers while neutralising several others during the rescue mission, describing the outcome as a major relief for the affected families and the nation.

According to the President, the successful operation ended more than 50 days of uncertainty and demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led security efforts.

He expressed gratitude to members of the armed forces, intelligence agencies and the police for ensuring the safe return of the pupils and their teachers.

Tinubu acknowledged the emotional trauma endured by the victims, their families and Nigerians since the abduction on May 15, assuring that those responsible would face justice.

He also pledged justice for the late mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed while in captivity.

The President commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government throughout the rescue operation and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.

In addition, Tinubu directed relevant emergency response agencies to work with the Oyo State Government in providing medical attention, counselling and other necessary support for the rescued pupils and teachers.

The victims were abducted on May 15 when armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area. Their rescue on Friday brought an end to 56 days in captivity.
