A coroner’s court in the United Kingdom has ruled that a 27-year-old Nigerian woman, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide following a prolonged battle with mental health challenges linked to personal difficulties.

Solomon, who moved from Nigeria to the UK in November 2023 on a skilled worker visa, was found unresponsive at her residence on Norris Road, Stanfield.

According to reports presented during the inquest, her husband, Damian Butler, had left home around 4:30 p.m. for his delivery job and returned about two hours later. While at home, he found his wife unresponsive and immediately raised the alarm.

Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward, but Solomon was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:21 p.m. Police investigations found no evidence of foul play or third-party involvement.

During the hearing, Butler told the court that his wife had experienced mental health difficulties over the previous year, which he said were connected to ongoing personal challenges. He also revealed that he later learned she had made two previous suicide attempts.

A post-mortem examination conducted by pathologist Dr. Jones concluded that Solomon died from oxygen deprivation.

Delivering her verdict, Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor ruled that the death was suicide, stating that evidence showed Solomon had researched and planned how to end her life.

The coroner extended her condolences to Solomon’s family and friends.

Solomon, who worked as a caregiver in the UK, is survived by her husband, their son, and her siblings.

If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide or overwhelming emotional distress, reaching out to a trusted family member, a mental health professional, or a local crisis support service can make an important difference. Help is available, and no one has to face such struggles alone.
